DevResults just released an update that expands and streamlines reporting period filtering functionality for visualizations. (Say that three times fast!)
Previously, there was a mix of tools for filtering reporting periods on graphs, matrices, maps, and pie charts. Some had checkboxes, some had timelines, and some had automatic options, like for setting a dashboard tile to always show the most recent reporting period. We've combined the best of each option into a single set of tools.
Here's a quick overview:
When choosing the reporting period(s) for your visualization, first choose your selection mode. The default is Fixed reporting period(s), which means that you intend to select them yourself below (or by default, include all periods with data). The auto options select the reporting period(s) for you. Hover over each one for the definition. These options are especially useful for dashboard tiles if you want the tile's data to automatically update to a different period in the future.
For visualizations that only support one reporting cycle at a time, choose which cycle you'd like to visualize.
If you've chosen the "Fixed reporting period(s)" selection mode, use the checkboxes to include reporting periods in your visualization. If you've selected an auto option, the included periods will be displayed with checks but will not be editable.
NOTE: Reporting period selection tools are affected by whether you choose to view data incrementally or cumulatively in the Display panel. When viewing data cumulatively, data for all reporting periods will be included up to the final reporting period you choose. For example, if you show data cumulatively through 2020 Q4, you cannot uncheck any earlier periods.
